Scott Vermillion, Martin Bros. Vice President of Sales, Named Iowa Restaurant Association Purveyor Partner of the Year

Scott Vermillion, Vice President of Sales at Martin Bros. Distributing Co., Inc., was named the 2017 Iowa Restaurant Association Purveyor Partner of the Year. An awards ceremony congratulating Scott and other industry award winners was held in Des Moines on October 5.

Scott’s career has been dedicated to doing whatever it takes to provide legendary customer service. From the moment he started working for his family’s greenhouse business at the age of 14, he was taught that “on the path to success, there is no job that is beneath you.” He learned to appreciate what each role brought to the overall success of the business.

Scott discovered the food service industry at age 29 while attending college. He was working in the beer business and taking night classes when his first full-time foodservice sales opportunity presented itself. Two years later, he was introduced to Martin Bros.

Having grown up working for a family-owned company, he was drawn to the culture and vision of Martin Bros. He accepted a sales position and has never looked back.

Now 23 years later, Scott has held nearly every sales position in the company. He began as a Sales Representative hunting for new business in the Des Moines area, moved into a role developing national accounts, graduated to a Territory Sales Manager and then became Sales Manager. In 2014, he was named to his current position, Vice President of Sales.

One of Scott’s most impactful contributions to the company and industry was the implementation of a Martin Bros. Culinary Team in 2004. This new, value-added service proved to be an enormous success from the very beginning, helping to grow business for Martin Bros. and provide new ideas to customers. Today, Martin Bros. employs a Culinary Team consisting of two corporate chefs, a center-of-the-plate specialist and a product specialist. The team assists with developing menus, conducting customer training and helping to introduce new products.

“This team added another opportunity to help our customers be their best,” said Scott. “Customer satisfaction is our top priority, and that’s not just in sales. Our entire company is focused on providing legendary customer service to our accounts. That’s what truly makes us different.”
