In 1940, Roy and Glen Martin founded Martin Bros. Distributing Co. with great determination and a handful of cash. They laid their foundation with a commitment to strong family values and an emphasis on customer relationships defined by “Legendary Customer Service”.

Over time, Martin Bros. grew into an independent, full-line distributor offering customers everything they need for their foodservice operation. In 1960, Martin Bros. was incorporated and in 1981 all employees transitioned to employee-owners through the creation of an ESOP. With each adaptation along the way, Martin Bros. has remained committed to the same goals and values that laid the foundation for our success at its inception.

At Martin Bros., every full-time employee is an owner in the company!

ESOP stands for Employee Stock Ownership Plan. It’s a form of an employee retirement plan similar to a 401(k) in which company shares are distributed to employees. Don’t confuse ESOP with the standard retirement plan, however. The two are very different.

No action is required to join and there is no cost to you. Once you have worked for Martin Bros. for one year and logged at least 1,000 hours in a 12-month period, you will be automatically enrolled into the plan during our next enrollment period, provided you are 21 years of age.

At Martin Bros., the ESOP is a way for everyone to have a positive impact on the health of the organization. Everyone’s contributions affect the overall financial benefit provided for retirement. And since we all have skin in the game, this inspires collaboration, a positive work environment and a team of individuals who are consistently looking to make Martin Bros. succeed through smarter processes, improved teamwork and most importantly by providing a service level to our customers that cannot be matched.

Every June Martin Bros. distributes a statement of account activity for the preceding year to all ESOP plan participants. Your statement will show the benefits you have earned and the value of those benefits. The value is determined once a year by an independent appraiser.
